Welcome!

Our family has decided to build a Factory Five Roadster (FFR).  This site will be devoted to documenting the trials, tribulations  and eventual successes of the build process.  So, what is a FFR and why would we want to build one?

The FFR is a high performance (race inspired) kit car that replicates the renowned Shelby 427 Cobra.  The "kit" contains "most" everything one needs to successfully assemble the final car; with the exception of engine, drive train, some suspension components and paint.  The concept originated using parts from a "donor mustang" but now offers several options to the builder.  The donor car method is still supported, and arguably the least expensive avenue, however, Factory Five now offers a more "complete" kit.  The more complete kit requires only the engine, transmission and paint.  Yet another option to the builder is the abundant availability of after-market, high performance, mustang parts.  This third option is often used in conjunction with some used parts obtained through local salvage yards.  We will be using a combination of used, new and after-market parts.

The why is simple...we enjoy "family projects" and the end result is a race style vehicle that we can all enjoy and be proud of.

We invite you to read, follow and enjoy what is to come.  An important note, however, is that we are amateurs.  The techniques, methods and processes we use work for us.  They should not, however, be viewed as instructions or guidance on how to build a car.   In fact, if you see us doing something that you have a better method or idea for...tell us!  We would love to hear from others...we are quite happy to learn from others mistakes!  No need to reinvent the wheel here...
